Zombie invasion

A shopping centre is bracing itself for an invasion of zombies.
The living dead will descend on Eagles Meadow, Wrexham as part of the Student Take Over discount event on Thursday, October 2 from 5pm to 8pm.
Leading the zombie charge will be second year theatre and performance Glyndwr University student Brett Jones, 21 from Wrexham. Brett runs Psychotel in Chester, with friend and business partner Ollie Cook, 23.
The terrifying hotel, where people pay for the privilege of being scared witless, is based in Ye Olde King's Head. The inn has featured on TV hit series Most Haunted.
As well as the zombie invasion, the Student Takeover will feature a host of exclusive offers of up to 20 per cent for bargain-hunting undergrads when they show a valid student card at the till point of participating stores.
These include H&M, River Island, Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Bank where there will be a DJ entertaining the crowds.
Brett, who is also a skilled magician, said: “It’s a lot of fun scaring people – I never get bored of it. People will scream their heads off. I’ve seen the biggest, toughest, muscular guys run away screaming and shouting.
“People like being scared and as long as people like being scared I’ll have something to do.
“We have a lot of different costumes we use such as zombies, a plague doctor and slasher characters like Jason. We make them as detailed as possible because they have to be 10 times better than a normal Halloween costume. We cover them in fake blood. I must have used gallons of fake blood over the years.
“You stay overnight in the hotel and actors come into the rooms and scare the living daylights out of you. We drag people into the basement and things like that.
“I’ve been working at different scare attractions for a few years.
“We train people up as scare actors. We use a lot of theatre students because they’re eager for work, and it’s great experience for them and a great creative outlet.
“We use a lot of students from Glyndwr University.”
Tobias Perks, 22, Entertainment and Events Officer at the Glyndwr University Students Guild, added: “I’m really looking forward to the Student Take Over because we all love a good shop and we all love a good bargain. When you’re a student every little helps. I’m going to be on the lookout for shoes because I’ve got a thing for shoes.
“I think it’s great that Eagles Meadow is working with students to create this event.
“I’ve worked with Brett on events before. He’s a friend and he’s also a talented magician.”
Eagles Meadow Manager Kevin Critchley said: “The Student Take Over was very popular last year so it’s great to bring it back.
“It means students don’t have to travel to find discounts and while they do tend to be fashion-conscious, especially in Wrexham, they don’t usually have big budgets.
“There are a good range of shops at Eagles Meadow and they’re offering some excellent discounts on what should be a really fun night for the many students in the town.”
